There is more to the Aberdeen Orpheus Choir than just the singing, though, even if we no longer have a favoured pub for Wednesday evenings. Each year, the visit to outlying venues is seen as a day out for
the members to get to know each other. The annual social calendar generally includes a cheese and wine evening, a Burns Nicht, after-concert dinners and walks which normally end up at a local hostelry for a meal.
This social angle is probably part of the reason why so many members have remained for so many years. For example, the records for 1971 show that two of the office bearers then were Miss Stella Reid (Secretary) who
(with breaks in between) is our current Secretary, and Mrs. Brenda Brown (Robe Mistress) who was still Robe Mistress in the late 1990s. The choir
has celebrated two milestone anniversaries via Civic
Receptions by Aberdeen City Council - the 40th anniversary
was in May 1995 and the 50th anniversary in May 2005. |
